Thailand rewards a two-part itinerary. The north — Chiang Mai and the hills — gives you temples, food markets, elephant sanctuaries run properly, and cool evenings. The south gives you the Andaman: limestone karsts rising out of the sea, private villas with staff, and long-tail boats to beaches you reach at the right hour or not at all.
The trap is Phuket's reputation, which is earned in some parts of the island and completely undeserved in others. Belinda places guests on the quiet western headlands and in Phang Nga, where the resorts are private and the crowds simply are not.

- Nov – AprThe Andaman dry season. Calm seas, clear skies, peak demand from Christmas to February.
- May – OctGreen season on the west coast; better value and still often sunny. The Gulf islands run the opposite pattern.
